Anything but Times New Roman — Type Series

March 20, 2010

How about trying something new with typefaces this year particularly with printed guides? Ikea controversially replaced Futura type face with Matthew Carter’s Verdana for all print catalogues around the world as of 2009. Office 2007 by default, is configured to use a whole different set of typefaces, with nary a sight of Arial/Helvetica or Times New Roman. Windows 7, combines a sleek user interface with new sets of professionally commissioned screen fonts, MS Segoe UI, replacing Tahoma on Windows XP and Microsoft Sans Serif (Windows 95 and up). Logitech’s new website redesign uses what is apparently, Gotham from a well regarded type foundry called H&J. Some of Dell’s recent printed catalogues, in the local paper, appear to use some variation of Museo Sans very prominently.
